Wheel of Fortune

I heard on the news today that kids under the age of 2 should not watch images on a screen (TV, computer). String Bean LOVES Wheel of Fortune. How can I say no to a little girl who claps and squeals every time the audience claps (which is a lot), enjoys watching the wheel go around, Vanna "flip" the letters and Pat's corny jokes?

Yes, and we all should grow our own food and livestock.

This recommendation from the AAP is unrealistic in today's real world. Unless you have no other children and you are severely disciplined to never watch tv around your child. There is no way that your child under 2 will avoid all exposure to tv.

I have wrestled with this recommendation, as I want to give the best start to my child's life. I've come to the personal conclusion that age appropriate (or even family friendly) shows and videos are acceptable.

Our tv is not on all hours of the day. (We actually don't have cable or satellite anymore.) When we are done with a video, it is turned off.

Sorry for getting on my soapbox... :-)
